TALLAHASSEE, FL – Today, prominent civil rights attorney and small businessman, Daryl Parks, debated Republican incumbent State Senator Corey Simon and clarified the record on Simon’s votes on abortion. 

In response, Daryl Parks offered the following statement:

“Senator Corey Simon said on camera and in a room full of people today that he supports an abortion ban, admitted he voted for additional bans, and restated that he will vote to uphold the 6-week abortion ban. Senator Simon has made it clear: Your freedoms are only important to him if he can score cheap political points.”  

In the debate, Simon also dismissed several of his votes as irrelevant because they were “bills that didn’t pass…amendments that didn’t go anywhere.” 

“Senator Simon’s offhand dismissal of the bills he should be reading and making an informed vote on shows that he is not working for you – he’s working for the corporate elites in the Capitol. North Florida deserves a leader who cares about the issues and fights for them, not someone who doesn’t even bother to read the bills, pass or fail. Senator Simon has never supported women’s rights unless he was benefiting directly from it.” 

Parks has been a community leader, advocate, and outspoken voice for change for nearly 30 years. As a State Senator, Parks will prioritize fighting to lower costs for hardworking families, expanding access to quality affordable healthcare, ensuring women can make their own healthcare decisions and reversing the impacts of extreme policies supported by Simon that have prioritized culture wars ahead of the everyday needs and allow rising costs that are squeezing working families.
